This is a Neoscope Public Service Security Announcement

The United States government (and Neoscope) is recommending that our clients uninstall QuickTime software due to two critical security bugs that could potentially leave users vulnerable to remote compromise.   These vulnerabilities only affects Windows systems. Patches are not under development by Apple because they have stopped all development on this product on the Windows platform.

“The only way to protect your Windows systems from potential attacks against these or other vulnerabilities in Apple QuickTime now is to uninstall it.

  • Open Windows Control Panel, find “Programs” and double-click or select “Uninstall a program”.
  • In the subsequent window, scroll down until you find Quicktime and double-click to uninstall.
  • Reboot your computer to complete the uninstall.

If you still need the ability to play Quicktime video’s, there is a free player you can install called VLC Media PlayerHowever, please note that Neoscope has not evaluated the security of this product and cannot comment on its suitability for use.
